Maureen Gavin, M.S., CCC-SLP, TSSLD
Maureen Gavin is dedicated to helping children and adults strengthen their communication skills in ways that are meaningful for their daily lives. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame, where she studied Film and TV, and worked in the media industry before pivoting to speech-language pathology to make a lasting difference in people’s lives. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Stony Brook University and has experience across schools, clinics, and hospital settings. Maureen has supported a wide range of clients, from children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, and cerebral palsy, to adults navigating aphasia, apraxia of speech, swallowing difficulties, and voice disorders. She also has experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), supporting clients who benefit from a variety of communication modalities. In school settings, she has developed and implemented Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams, and she enjoys supporting literacy development and writing skills to help students build stronger connections between communication and academic success.
At the heart of Maureen’s work is a commitment to functional, individualized care that empowers her clients to express themselves with confidence. She believes therapy should feel engaging, supportive, and collaborative; incorporating families and caregivers to ensure progress carries over into real-life settings. Maureen values culturally responsive and neurodiversity-affirming practices, tailoring therapy to each person’s strengths and needs. Whether through play-based activities with young children, strategies for building independence in school, or practical tools for adults, she strives to make communication accessible and rewarding for every client.
